Stanground is located in the south east of the city with good road links to the A1M, the Hamptons and Peterborough City Centre. The city centre is about 2 mile away where efficient rail links will take you into London in 40/50 minutes.
Stanground Village and it’s original church is mentioned in the Domesday survey in 1086. The Stanground Manor house dating from the 13th century, was granted to Princess Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth I) in 1550, before being destroyed by fire in 1899.
Over the last seventy years Stanground has grown beyond the original village boundaries and now is a large suburb of the City of Peterborough which includes the areas of Park Farm as well as the Cardea estate. The original village area integrates nicely with the ever-expanding new developments that have brought new facilities throughout the area.
Stanground is well known as a family orientated community, yet close enough to Peterborough to enjoy its shopping, attractions and the city’s restaurants and night life.
Stanground is serviced by a local doctors surgery, vets, mechanic, Tesco Express, Aldi and a brand new sports centre that offers a fitness suite, swimming pool and classes, perfect for the whole family. At Cardea you’ll also find Morrison’s supermarket as well as a great fish & chip shop and a hairdresser/beautician – ideal if you don’t want to pop into town.
There are several local primary schools including Stanground St Johns that achieved a ‘Good’ in its most recent Ofsted report. This school also offers a breakfast and after school club. Southfields Primary has been classed as ‘Outstanding’ since 2008 by Ofsted, and Oakdale Primary received a ‘Good’. Stanground Academy is a recently modernised senior school that is linked with the sports centre and offers sixth form facilities.
Stanground Woods are perfect for dog walking and exercising the family and two local nature reserves include Stanground Wash and Stanground Newt Ponds – great if you are a bird watcher. The local community offers a 50+ club, carpet bowls, Zumba and Weight Watchers.
As estate agents in Peterborough we love Stanground as it has a real heart and soul, and many people that live here have done so for years. It has all you need within walking distance and full city amenities are just a few miles away.
