The Different Types of Estate Agents

Introduction:

You do not see it often, but it is possible to sell your own home in the UK without using an estate agent. After hearing this, your first thought might be, well, why don’t I just do this? You can, but I would read a little more yet before making your decision, as you may find it is not quite as straightforward as it seems.

You have the option of using an online agent, a self-employed agent, a hybrid / bespoke agent, a local high street agent, a regional high street agent, or a corporate high street agent. They all call themselves estate agents but are quite different.

DIY, DWY & DFY:

The best way to assess their support to you is by looking at their services. You want to assess their DIY, DWY, or their DFY services. The ‘what do you get for your buck’ assessment.

This assessment ensures that you choose the right partner for you, depending on the investment you want to make and the effort you want to put into your sale. So you have to choose:

DIY – Do it yourself

DWY – Do it with you

DFY – Do it for you

All the different types of agencies have the ability to offer all three types of service, but normally they choose one that is their staple, their main offering. And it looks a little like this:

O Rarely

O Sometimes

O Always

Conclusion:

The difference in the expectation of a service and the actual service provided can be quite complex when it comes to Estate Agents. For further insights and explanations on the differences and choices made, click here to read more!
